§ 31.5-96. Banner signs.

  • (a)

    Banner signs may be permitted only in commercial and industrial districts.

    (b)

    A banner sign shall not be erected more than fourteen (14) days prior to the event which it advertises, identifies, or announces, and it shall be removed not later than three (3) days after the subject event terminates. However, under no circumstances shall a banner sign remain erected for a period longer than thirty (30) days.

    (c)

    No more than one (1) permit for a banner sign shall be issued for any one (1) parcel, or site within any six-month period.

    (d)

    A maximum number of one (1) banner sign may be permitted on a parcel.

    (e)

    A banner sign may be erected on a building.

    (f)

    A banner sign shall be setback at least fifteen (15) feet from all property lines.

    (g)

    A banner sign shall not exceed twenty (20) feet in height.

    (h)

    The maximum allowable copy area of any banner sign shall be forty (40) square feet.

    (i)

    Streamers, pennants, flags, ribbons, spinners, or other prohibited devices shall not be included with, erected with, or incorporated into the display of a banner sign.

    (j)

    A banner sign shall not be erected on unimproved property, except for mesh fence construction banners at a construction site.
