§ 31.5-167. Pole signs.

  • (a)

    The maximum allowable copy area of any pole sign shall be one hundred (100) square feet.

    (b)

    The maximum height of any pole sign shall be thirty (30) feet.

    (c)

    The minimum setback for any pole sign shall be one hundred and fifty (150) feet from any right-of-way, except limited access highway right-of-ways, twenty (20) feet from the side property lines, and twenty (20) feet from the rear property line (for side and rear property lines that are not on a limited access highway). The setback from a limited access highway shall be ten (10) feet. Existing signs that do not meet these provisions shall comply with section 31.5-7.

    (d)

    The minimum clearance of any pole sign shall be eight (8) feet from the finished grade level, except that if the sign extends over a vehicular travelway on the parcel, the minimum clearance shall be thirteen and one-half (13½) feet.

    (e)

    Any pole sign may include changeable copy, except that the message shall not travel across the sign face and as prohibited by section 31.5-14.

    (f)

    The maximum number of pole signs shall be one (1) sign per parcel, unless the property frontage of the parcel exceeds five hundred (500) feet, in which event one (1) additional pole sign may be permitted. Any pole signs and any pole sign and ground sign on the same parcel shall be separated by a distance of not less than one hundred (100) feet.

    (g)

    An EMC shall be permitted pursuant to section 31.5-16, provided it does not exceed twenty-five (25) percent of allowable copy area.
