§ 34-208. Other utilities.

  • (a)

    Underground installation. Utility lines of all kinds, including but not limited to, those of franchised utilities, electric power, telephone and telegraph, cable television, water, wastewater, and gas, shall be constructed and installed beneath the surface of the ground within new residential subdivisions. The public works director (and the utilities director regarding water and wastewater matters) will consider specific proposals for aboveground service. It shall be the developer's responsibility to make the necessary arrangements for service with each utility in accordance with the utility's established policies. The underground installation of incidental appurtenances such as transformer boxes, pedestal-mounted terminal boxes for electricity, or similar service hardware necessary for the provision of electric and communication utilities shall not be required. Existing electric lines carrying voltage in excess of sixty-nine thousand (69,000) volts may remain aboveground.

    (b)

    Individual electric service. In all cases, residential property being subdivided shall have permanent electrical service available to each lot within the subdivision.

    (c)

    Street lighting. Provisions shall be made for the installation of street lights on all new residential streets.
