§ 31.5-97. Subdivision home signs.

  • (a)

    Signs may be permitted in new residential subdivisions to advertise, identify, or announce the availability of lots, homes, or living units.

    (b)

    Not more than one (1) main entrance sign may be permitted at the main entrance of the new subdivision, provided it only identifies the subdivision model homes for viewing, and the name of the builder or developer. It shall have a maximum copy area of thirty-two (32) square feet, shall not exceed six (6) feet in height, shall be only a ground sign, shall be erected at least ten (10) feet from the nearest right-of-way line, shall not be illuminated, and shall be removed not later than seven (7) days after the sale of the last home in the subdivision. Not more than two (2) pennants or flags not to exceed six (6) square feet in size a piece may be incorporated with the sign at the main entrance.

    (c)

    Each approved model unit within the new subdivision may be permitted one (1) sign on the model unit lot. Each such sign shall have a maximum copy area of six (6) square feet, shall not exceed four (4) feet in height, shall be erected at least ten (10) feet from the nearest right-of-way line, shall not be illuminated, and shall be removed not more than seven (7) days after the sale of the subject model unit. Temporary directional signs may be permitted without a permit inside the new subdivision to direct people to approved model units, provided that each such sign shall have a maximum allowable copy area of four (4) square feet, shall not exceed three (3) feet in height, shall not be erected closer than three (3) feet from the nearest right-of-way, shall not be illuminated, and shall be removed not later than seven (7) days after the sale of the last model unit.
